Is Medical Insurance Required?
MOBO Medical Spa has options for those with and without insurance coverage for hormone therapy.
What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement?
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (known as BHRT) are hormones that are structurally identical to those made by your own body. At MOBO Med Spa, we use small hormone-containing pellets placed under your skin and into your subcutaneous/fatty tissue to then release slow and steady levels of hormones.
What Type of Hormone Administration do you offer?
We offer multiple routes of hormone administration including pellets, creams, and oral pills. Your provider will discuss what options are best for you.
Our pellet insertions are done in-office and we offer numbing to enhance patient comfort during the procedure.
Is hormone therapy safe?
There have been many studies to prove the safety and benefit of bioidentical hormone therapy. Your provider is happy to discuss these studies with you.
What hormones do you offer for women .vs. for men?
Women: MOBO providers may prescribe estrogen (estradiol), testosterone, and progesterone for women.
Men: MOBO providers may prescribe testosterone.
What is required before starting hormone therapy?
We perform a detailed assessment of the patient's medical/surgical history, current medications, family medical history, and order hormone lab testing prior to initiating any hormone treatment. For men, we require a recent PSA (within 1 year).
How quickly will I notice symptom relief?
Symptom relief typically starts within 2-4 weeks after treatment; however, patient results may vary. If you are not experiencing improvement of symptoms, inform your provider.
How long will I need hormone therapy?
There is no upper age limit regarding the amount of time that you can be on hormone therapy replacement.
How long do hormone pellets last?
For women, you can expect your pellets to deliver hormones for approximately 3-4 months, at which time, you will need to have more pellets placed to continue to optimize your wellness. For men receiving pellet BHRT, you can expect your pellets to deliver steady levels of hormones for approximately 5-6 months, at which time, you will need to have more pellets placed to continue to optimize your wellness.
What happens to the pellets after you have them inserted? Do the pellets need to be removed?
Our hormone pellets completely dissolve over time and eventually disappear. Because pellets completely dissolve, you do not need to have them removed, however, as the pellet dissolves, your symptoms will begin to return and you will need to have new pellets placed to maintain symptom control.
What is my aftercare for pellet insertion?
Avoid hot tubs, swimming, or full water immersion of the insertion site for 5 days, as directed by your provider.
Avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting for 5-7 days.
Remove the bandage after 1 day and allow the steri-strips to fall off on their own (typically a week), or follow directions from your provider.
Call your provider if you experience any of the following:
- Discharge from insertion site
- Excessive redness or swelling
- Chills and/or fever greater than 101.5F
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Excessive tenderness
- Infection at implant site and/or pellets coming out of the skin. Both could occur at any time and may require further treatment.
Can I have hormone therapy if I have a family history of breast cancer?
This will be determined at the time of your initial visit. Each treatment is individualized to the patient's medical history and their family medical history. We require a detailed family history during your initial visit.
What are the potential side effects of hormone therapy?
While HRT offers significant benefits for those struggling with hormonal imbalances, it’s important to be aware of potential risks and side effects. Common side effects may include:
- mood swings
- weight gain
- acne, fatigue
It’s crucial to discuss all potential side effects, risks, and benefits with your healthcare provider. At MOBO Med Spa, patient safety and patient-provider collaboration are paramount. We ensure that all patients considering HRT are fully informed of both the potential benefits and risks.
Learn more about the three types of Estrogen (estrone, estradiol, and estriol)
You may notice on your hormone labs a few different words that all look similar to "estrogen." Well that's because there are 3 different type of estrogen and we often look at these different types separately in your lab work.
Estrone is known as E1. After menopause, estrone is the only type of estrogen that your body keeps making naturally (because of this, we often don't check E1 because it doesn't give us much insight in your menopausal symptoms). Postmenopausal women usually have higher estrone levels than those who are premenopausal. Males also have estrone but in much lower amounts.
Estradiol (E2) is the primary type of estrogen in your body during your reproductive years. It’s the most potent form of estrogen. Women have almost no estradiol (E2) after menopause. Men secrete estradiol (E2) in moderate amounts by the testes throughout life.
Learn more about Testosterone
Testosterone is a vital hormone responsible for muscle maintenance, bone density, and libido. Our testosterone replacement therapy can help increase testosterone levels; thus, restoring energy, mood, and sexual function. Treatments may include:
- Creams/gels: applied topically to the skin daily.
- Injections: given subcutaneously (under the skin) weekly.
- Pellet implantation: small pellets inserted under the skin every 3-4 months for women + every 5-6 months for men.
